The Global Big Day 2023 took place on Saturday, May 13th. It is the world's largest birdwatching event for observation and recording, in which Peru obtained second place with 1454 birds observed, according to the latest update from the eBird platform.

The Global Big Day has been organized since 2015 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (New York, United States) and brings together experts and birdwatching enthusiasts.

Peru was crowned consecutive world champions in 2015, 2016, and 2021, identifying 1,182, 1,234, and 1,365 species, respectively. In 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022, Peru secured the second place worldwide, standing on the podium behind Colombia.

Our remarkable participation reaffirms that Peru is not only a destination with great bird diversity but also an accessible place for birdwatching, ideal for birdwatchers in search of endemic species.
